Man charged over Tramore church stabbing remanded in custody after refusing psychiatric assessment

A 36-year-old man charged in connection with the alleged stabbing of a woman at Holy Cross Church in Tramore, Co Waterford, has been remanded in custody after declining a psychiatric evaluation.

Niall Cummins, of the Willows, Clarinwood, Tramore, appeared via video link at Waterford District Court on Tuesday, where the court heard he had refused an appointment with a psychiatrist. As a result, no psychiatric report has been prepared at this stage.

Woman stabbed during Mass in Waterford Church

TRAMORE, CO WATERFORD — A woman in her 50s has been seriously injured after a stabbing during Mass at Holy Cross Church in Tramore this morning. It was reported by WLR FM that the woman was stabbed at the altar of the church during Mass.

Gardaí responded to the incident at approximately 9:45am on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. The woman was taken to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries.
