Brazilian Fugitive on Interpol Red Notice Arrested on Irish Farm After 14 Years on the Run
A 55-year-old Brazilian man convicted of raping a minor has been arrested in Ireland after evading capture for nearly 15 years and living under a false identity.
Who Was Arrested
Renivaldo Figueiredo Lima, 55, fled Brazil in 2012 shortly before he was convicted of raping a minor. He has been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice — an international alert requesting arrest by any of the organisation's 190 member states.
The Arrest
Gardaí received an anonymous tip-off that Lima was working on a farm in Co Cavan. Detectives from the Garda National Immigration Bureau established he was using false documents and arrested him on April 20th — thirteen days after the Red Notice was issued on April 7th.
"He was not arrested for extradition as there is no treaty. But he is being held after Immigration arrested him — that is for deportation. So, no matter what, he is going back to Brazil."

Where He Was
Sources indicate Lima had been living in Ireland for at least a decade, repeatedly moving around the country and using false identification to avoid detection. Brazilian media reported he had spent time in Ballina, Co Mayo, and initially claimed his arrest was in Wexford — though Irish sources confirm it was Cavan.
Current Status
Lima is currently held in Cloverhill Prison, Dublin, on foot of a deportation order. He is expected to be deported to Brazil in the coming weeks to finally face justice in his home town of Campos Belos, north-east Brazil.
Legal Context
Ireland has no extradition agreement with Brazil, meaning gardaí could not arrest him specifically under the Interpol Red Notice. Instead, he was detained on immigration offences, which provides a legal pathway for his removal from the country.
