A man suspected of attacking three women with two kitchen knives in Paris this morning was arrested, authorities said. The suspect was detained by an off-duty police officer, whom Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised for a “courageous act.”
The attack happened around 11:30 a.m. in the Porte de Clichy area in north-west Paris. The three victims, aged 19, 24 and 36, were taken to hospital; local media reported that one of the women is pregnant.
Two of the women were seriously wounded, but their condition was not life-threatening, Nunez said. One was hit in the lower back and the other in the abdomen.
Authorities said the suspect’s identity and motives were not immediately known. Nunez said the man made an “incoherent” statement during his arrest and warned against drawing conclusions about his motives too quickly.
