Seven Turkish Police Wounded in Clash with Islamic State Militants
ISTANBUL, 29 December 2025, Seven Turkish police officers have been wounded in a clash with suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in Yalova province in northwest Turkey, according to state media reports.
The confrontation occurred on Monday when local police units launched an operation targeting a house believed to harbor militants outside the town of Yalova, located on the coast of the Sea of Marmara south of Istanbul.
According to reports from state broadcaster TRT Haber, the injured officers were hit during the exchange of gunfire with the suspected militants. None of the officers were reported to be in serious condition, authorities said, though details on the identities or number of militants involved have not yet been released.
The clash highlights ongoing security challenges in Turkey, where authorities have maintained heightened vigilance against extremist networks. In recent days, Turkish security forces conducted nationwide raids that resulted in the detention of more than 100 suspected Islamic State members allegedly planning attacks around Christmas and New Year celebrations, demonstrating persistent threats linked to IS cells.
Special police forces were reportedly deployed from nearby Bursa province to support the operation as it unfolded, underscoring the coordinated effort by anti terror units to contain the situation.
Islamic State has operated as an underground threat since losing territorial control in Iraq and Syria years ago, with sporadic attacks and plots in Turkey and the wider region. Although large scale attacks have diminished compared with earlier years, security officials remain concerned about the group’s ability to reorganize through small, clandestine cells.
Turkish authorities have not yet issued an official statement with full details of the incident, and investigations into the clash are ongoing.
