MONAGHAN - A woman in her 20s is being held under counter-terrorism legislation following a major security alert on the main N2 between Ardee and Carrickmacross on Wednesday afternoon.
Gardaí flagged down a vehicle travelling along the N2 at approximately 3:00pm on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. Uniformed officers swiftly requested assistance from the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who carried out a follow-up search of the vehicle.
The N2 was closed for several hours yesterday evening while the EOD team rendered the scene safe. The road has since reopened.
The woman, the driver of the vehicle, was conveyed to a local garda station and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 (as amended).
