Two Gardaí Hospitalised After Handling Suspected Cannabis Vapes

The incident happened in Edenderry Garda Station in County Offaly and the station was closed for deep cleaning.

EDENDERRY, CO OFFALY - Two male gardaí were hospitalised and Edenderry Garda Station was forced to close after the officers became unwell while handling suspected cannabis vapes during an investigation.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. The officers were processing vape products seized from a commercial premises as part of an ongoing investigation when they became ill.

As of last night, both men remained in hospital undergoing medical assessment. Their current condition has not been disclosed.

Station Closure

Edenderry Garda Station remains closed today (Thursday) for "specialist deep cleaning." Policing services in the area are being provided from Tullamore Garda Station as a result.

Garda Statement

An Garda Síochána confirmed welfare support is being provided to the hospitalised members and their families. The force has no further comment pending the outcome of ongoing enquiries into the cause of the officers becoming unwell.

No additional information will be provided on the medical condition of the two officers.
