A 35-year-old man found dead at a recycling facility in Dublin had been sleeping rough in Cork City in the days leading up to his death.
Andrew Haire, who was not originally from Cork, had engaged with homeless services in the city several times during the month. He received assistance from services last Thursday, one day before his body was discovered at a Greyhound Recycling facility in Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
Gardaí in Cork are investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr Haire’s death and are working to trace his movements. It is understood that he had been in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork between Friday, July 17, and Friday, July 24.
His body was found shortly after 9pm on Friday at the recycling site, where waste from collection trucks is processed and sorted. A post-mortem examination was carried out on Saturday, though the results have not been released for operational reasons.
Mr Haire had accessed welfare and homeless services in both Dublin and Cork city centres.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen or interacted with Mr Haire during that period to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ronanstown Garda Station on 01 666 7700 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
In a statement, Aveen Moore, communications manager for Greyhound Recycling, expressed sympathy for Mr Haire’s family and confirmed the company is fully cooperating with the investigation. A family liaison officer has been assigned to support his relatives.
