CAHIR, CO TIPPERARY : The Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a number of vehicles were broken into and damaged in Cahir during the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to reports from The Journal, the incidents occurred on Barrack Street between approximately 12.30am and 1.30am on Saturday, 25 July.
It is understood that several of the vehicles targeted are believed to belong to members of the local fire service, many of whom have spent recent days battling the ongoing wildfires on Slievenamon Mountain.
A technical examination of the scene has since been carried out by Gardaí, and investigations remain ongoing.
Speaking to The Journal, Tipperary County Councillor Andy Moloney described the incident as "very disappointing", saying firefighters had worked tirelessly over the past week tackling the Slievenamon fires and that targeting their vehicles while they served the community was "a low blow".
He added that many people in Cahir appreciate the dedication shown by local firefighters and were shocked to hear of the alleged break-ins.
Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who was travelling on or near Barrack Street between 12.30am and 1.30am and who may have dashcam or other camera footage to come forward.
