EU fisheries ministers are convening in Cork today for a two-day informal meeting held under Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The plenary session, scheduled for tomorrow at Cork City Hall, will be chaired by Martin Heydon, Ireland's Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Ministers will focus on two key priorities: advancing the sustainable development of the EU's fisheries and aquaculture sectors, and promoting generational renewal to ensure their long-term viability.
The gathering will be joined by EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee, alongside delegations from EU member states.
As part of the programme, ministers will tour Charles Fort in Kinsale later today. Constructed in 1682, the historic fort marks the starting point of the Wild Atlantic Way.
