Emergency services are responding to reports of a fire in the Comeragh Mountains, County Waterford, following reports of smoke and flames in the area on Sunday.
WLR News reports that fire crews have been mobilised after the alarm was raised, with emergency services attending the scene to assess the extent of the blaze. The exact size of the fire and what caused it are not yet known.
The incident comes as firefighters across the south east continue to deal with challenging wildfire conditions. In recent days, smoke from the major Slievenamon wildfire in neighbouring County Tipperary has drifted across large parts of Waterford due to changing wind conditions.
It is not yet confirmed whether today's fire in the Comeragh Mountains is connected to the ongoing wildfire in Tipperary or is a separate incident.
Motorists and members of the public are being urged to avoid the affected area where possible and allow emergency services unrestricted access while firefighting operations continue.
LTT Media will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as more information becomes available from Waterford Fire Service, An Garda Síochána and other official sources.
This is a developing story.
