Growing concerns over dissident republican activity are believed to be contributing to a significant number of Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers requesting transfers out of one policing district, according to reports.
It is understood that 10 officers have left the district over the past 17 months, with security concerns and the continued threat posed by dissident republican groups believed to be among the key factors influencing their decisions. While no official confirmation has been issued linking every departure directly to security threats, policing sources suggest the hostile environment facing officers remains a major concern.
The terrorist threat level in Northern Ireland continues to remain a serious issue, with dissident republican organisations maintaining the capability and intent to target police officers and security personnel. Recent years have seen repeated threats directed not only at serving officers but also at their families, alongside attempted attacks on police facilities and vehicles.
The issue follows years of heightened concern over officer safety, particularly after the PSNI data breach in 2023 exposed the personal details of thousands of officers and staff, increasing fears that dissident groups could exploit that information.
Policing representatives have repeatedly warned that the combination of ongoing terrorist threats, recruitment pressures, staff shortages and the demanding nature of frontline policing is placing increasing strain on the service.
