Out-of-control wildfires in France and Spain have forced the evacuation of more than 250,000 people, according to authorities.
In southwest France near Bordeaux, around 197,000 residents were evacuated, while in Spain approximately 70,000 people fled villages west of Madrid. One man died in Valencia after being found in a car in a ravine.

Smokers in Spain could soon face fines of up to €600 for lighting a cigarette on beaches, as the Spanish Government pushes ahead with major new anti-smoking legislation.
The proposed law would significantly expand existing smoking restrictions, extending the ban beyond bars and restaurants to include beaches, public swimming pools, national parks, sports facilities, and outdoor terraces.
Spain Records Highest Number of Islamist Terrorism Arrests in EU During 2025, Europol Reports
The report states that 100 people were arrested in Spain on suspicion of offences connected to Islamist extremism, the highest figure among all EU member states. Across the European Union, 486 terrorism-related arrests were made during the year, with 347 of those linked to Islamist extremism, making it the largest category of terrorism-related investigations.
France recorded the second-highest number of Islamist terrorism arrests with 64 suspects, followed by the Netherlands and Austria with 40 each, Belgium with 30, and Italy with 26.
