A UK Government commissioned report has ignited political controversy after it reportedly suggested that some gender-critical or anti-trans narratives should be considered a form of misinformation because of their potential to spread false or misleading claims about transgender people.
The report, produced as part of wider efforts to tackle online misinformation and harmful content, has drawn criticism from Conservative politicians and campaigners, who argue it risks undermining free speech and legitimate public debate on issues surrounding sex and gender.
Spain Records Highest Number of Islamist Terrorism Arrests in EU During 2025, Europol Reports
The report states that 100 people were arrested in Spain on suspicion of offences connected to Islamist extremism, the highest figure among all EU member states. Across the European Union, 486 terrorism-related arrests were made during the year, with 347 of those linked to Islamist extremism, making it the largest category of terrorism-related investigations.
France recorded the second-highest number of Islamist terrorism arrests with 64 suspects, followed by the Netherlands and Austria with 40 each, Belgium with 30, and Italy with 26.
